About Maggie Lord –
Founder & Editor of RusticWeddingChic.com and RusticWeddingGuide.com
A self-confessed wedding junkie since the age of 13, Maggie Lord loves the romance and beauty of weddings. Passionate about the rustic style and eager to share her discoveries and ideas while planning her lakeside wedding at her parents’ summer cabin in Northern Wisconsin, Maggie started blogging. Now, RusticWeddingChic.com has become the number one online resource for brides planning rustic and country weddings. A sought-after expert on rustic and country wedding topics, Maggie is also the author of Rustic Wedding Chic (Gibbs Smith, August 2012) and Barn Weddings (Gibbs Smith, August 2013) along with being a contributing writer for various other online and print publications, such as The Huffington Post & DIY Wedding Magazine.Entrepreneurship and a passion for all things rustic runs in Maggie’s blood. She grew up working for Whispering Pines, a catalog and online business that her mother and aunt established in 1988. Maggie spent her after-school hours doing homework at the Whispering Pines offices, experiencing female entrepreneurship firsthand. From her middle school days, Maggie was a presence at the business, from modeling in the catalog to packing boxes during the busy holiday season. After college, Maggie became a middle school teacher, but she was always seeking ways to build her brand and follow her passion for weddings. In 2008, Maggie carved out her place in the Whispering Pines business by curating the catalog’s first rustic wedding collection. While planning her own rustic-style wedding at her family’s summer home, Maggie recognized a hole in the bridal blogosphere for a wedding blog that was dedicated to the rustic or country bride, including farm weddings, barn weddings, country affairs and vintage- style weddings, that demonstrated that rustic weddings didn’t have to sacrifice style and elegance.Maggie began Rustic Wedding Chic as a companion piece to the Whispering Pines rustic wedding collection, but before long, it began to take on a life of its own. After readership climbed exponentially, Rustic Wedding Chic underwent a complete site redesign and rebranding as the only blog devoted to this niche style of wedding. It quickly became a destination for wedding photographers, event planners, invitation companies and florists to showcase rustic weddings. But the true game changer that allowed Maggie to grow the Rustic Wedding chic brand was Maggie’s decision to connect directly with her RWC community. She created the “Ask Maggie” page on the blog, giving readers the opportunity to ask her specific questions about the wedding planning process. Maggie personally responds to dozens of emails every day, giving brides personal access to a wedding expert and advice on everything from gowns to venues to menu ideas.
Maggie’s is also the author of a series of wedding books: Rustic Wedding Chic (Gibbs Smith, August 2012), Barn Weddings (Gibbs Smith, August 2013) and The Rustic Wedding Handbook (Gibbs Smith, 2014). The books are meant as a timeless collection that will be resources for brides and event planners focused on rustic and country weddings for years to come.
Maggie is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and received a Master’s Degree from Southern New Hampshire Magazine. She lives in Connecticut with her husband and young son.
