Ask Maggie: How To Put Together A Wedding Welcome Bag

The ask Maggie feature on Rustic Wedding Chic

Every bride needs a little help when it comes to planning their rustic wedding. We have a very popular feature here at Rustic Wedding Chic called Ask Maggie where we encourage our readers to send in their questions when searching for a little advice or inspiration. We thought we would share the latest one with you today!

Rustic Wedding Chic Reader: I am putting together welcome bags for our guests in their hotel rooms — I want to make them fun but functional…any thoughts on what to put in them?

Maggie Lord the editor of Rustic Wedding ChicMaggie’s Response: A welcome bag is a wonderful way for your guests to start their wedding weekend with you. I have to say I love a good welcome bag! With that said these bags don’t have to be over the top expensive or excessive to be fun, really it’s all about putting some thought into them.

I say start local. Find some fun little items from the area to show off the local color. For example if you are getting married in Door County, WI, known for its cherries a little bag of chocolate covered cherries will be a great way to greet your guests. Water is essential… travelers are always thirsty. A local map and guide of the area will help your guests get out and explore and experience all that the wedding location has to offer.

I have two key things that I think should be in every bag: a welcome note from you & your fiancé and an event card. Many times guest forget to bring their invitation and they might not have the specifics on times and locations so this will really help! Here is the welcome bag I did for my wedding and I used Kraft Gable Boxes from Whispering Pines and added a vintage postcard with a welcome note and a weekend calender of the events with times and addresses.

Welcome Bag Items:

– Local Map         – Personal Note                 – Wedding Event Times & Location Card

– Water                  – Regional Food                – Small Bottle Of Wine

– Snacks                – Restaurant Listings       – Cheese & Crackers

– Mints                  – Weather Report              – Postcards From Area

Did you order the large or mini boxes? I assume the large boxes?

Hi there! I love the welcome card with the calendar of events. Do you happen to have the template you used? I’d love to create something similar for my wedding.

    Thank you!

I don’t have a template but I did it in photoshop very easily and then just printed on thick paper.

How much are you able to fit into these boxes? Can you fit 2 bottles of water at least? How much space is left after the water is in there?

    Thanks!

You can have two small bottles of water with some small food treats and room of some other welcome info. I used these at my own wedding and we put in two bottles of water, snack food, local area info along with some of fun little details.
