Interview With Designer Leanne Marshall

Handmade NYC BridalAt the NY bridal market I was lucky enough to view the new collection of  Project Runway winner and bridal designer Leanne Marshall. Leanne was showing beautiful, soft and modern looking dresses which I know all you country chic brides are going to love. Leanne was nice enough to let us show off some of her beautiful gowns which would make for the perfect rustic wedding dress and answer some of our questions as well.

RWC: Tell us about your success after Project Runway! What made you decide to start designing bridal?

LM: Life after Project Runway has been a whirlwind. I have been working constantly, designing for celebrities and private clients. The wedding gown from my Project Runway collection got a lot of attention and since then about 70% of my custom requests have been for wedding gowns. Also, after I made the first one, I saw my clients reaction and knew just what the dress meant to her. That moment was more powerful for me than anything else I had ever made or shown anybody prior. After I did a few more, I found that I really loved it. There is an overwhelming feeling of pride and satisfaction Ihat sweeps over me when I make a woman the dress of her dreams. I feel that the Bridal world is the perfect fit for my ethereal, feminine and floaty esthetic.
RWC:  We love the  fun embellishments and swooping details in your gowns. What inspires your designs?
LM: Thank you. I find inspiration in pretty much everything. I have designed pieces based on waves, flowers, graphic design fonts and even paintings. This current collection has its roots in an English rose garden.

RWC: What advice can you give to brides looking for the  perfect dress?
LM: Make sure that you are still the star. Don’t be the bride who is lost in a dress that people notice before they notice you.
