Unique Wording For Your RSVP Card

After you sent out your rustic wedding invitation it is so thrilling to start to get some responses back in the mail. However, before you can even get to this exciting time you need to order your RSVP cards and it seems that I get an endless amount of emails from brides seeking a little help to come up with creative wording. While the traditional wording,  Accepts With Pleasure / Regretfully Declines is still perfectly acceptable it seems some couples are looking for more unique wording for their RSVP card. I did a little searching online, in my archives and through the box of wedding invitation from each  wedding I have been invited to (which is a lot since I am at the age where all of my friends are getting married)! Here are a few unique was to word your RSVP cards.

DIY Ideas For Your Rustic Country Wedding

If you are anything like me then you love the DIY look at weddings. By incorporating the DIY look into your wedding decor you get the chance to really put your own “stamp” on the day and it allows you to really have the items reflect your individual style. Sometime I hear from brides who are scared off by the DIY title because they feel they are not crafty enough to pull off a DIY project, but in reality most DIY projects are easy enough for anyone to put together, the trick is finding the right resources to help you pull the look together. Here are a few products which I featured in my appearance today on NBC’s Better CT.

Personalized Mason Jar Favors

Sending your guest home with a sweet treat at the end of the evening is a great way to cap off your wedding celebration. These personalized mason jar favors can be filled with jam, honey or candy and are a great way to thank you guest for sharing in your day. You can either take this entire project on your own or you can get this DIY look with a little help from The Cherry Grove shop over on Etsy. I worked with The Cherry Grove to pick a small mason jar with a light blue and white checked fabric and a sweet little tag as one of my featured items on Better CT today.

Gable Box Welcome Bag

If your budget allows I always suggest to brides that they welcome their out of town guest to their wedding weekend with a welcome bag. These kraft gable boxes which I found over at Whispering Pines Catalog are the perfect size for filling with snacks, little treasures or information about your wedding location. We tied on a little ribbon and topped it off with a vintage postcard with a welcome note.

Burlap Wrapped Vase Hurricanes

One of my favorite things at a wedding is when the lights are dimmed and the soft glow of candlelight is lighting up the room. These burlap wrapped vase hurricanes work as either a vase for flowers or for a candle hurricane and make for the perfect rustic wedding centerpiece. When the candles are light the glow showing through the burlap is just downright magical. Again, this is a great DIY project if your have the crafty bone or you can head over to our friends at Rustic Blend and purchase the set and get the DIY look in one easy step!

Tin Can Vase

This is a DIY project that anyone no matter what level crafter you may be can pull off. This is a simple tin can vase where the label was removed and cleaned up a bit and topped off with beautiful flowers. This is a wonderful way to “up-cycle” items for your wedding and this project is perfect budget friendly brides. This vase image came from a beautiful farm style wedding which you can see here.

Pinterest Wedding Ideas – How brides can use Pinterest to have the Wedding of their Dreams

I am sure you know about Facebook and Twitter but you might not know about Pinterest…yet. This up and coming social networking site is a bride to be or wedding enthusiasts dream. Planning a wedding is all about seeing example and crafting a vision, remember the days when you used to tare out pictures from wedding magazine and pin them up on your bulletin board, maybe that was just me…anyway, Pinterest is a virtual version of that same bulletin board.

1) Get Pinterest Wedding Ideas: Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.

Recently I was emailing with a newly engaged friend of mine and when I asked what she was thinking about as far as wedding decor, her simple response was, “check out my Pinterest board“. This exchange just reaffirmed the fact that if you are a bride you HAVE to be on Pinterest!

One of the major benefits of Pinterest is that you can follow your favorite wedding brands, like Rustic Wedding Chic and “repin” all of their wedding ideas. By creating your own boards you can start to organize the many sections of your wedding, which will allow you to start to see how your wedding ideas are taking shape. I know that planning a wedding or talking about wedding ideas usually involves your girlfriends, bridesmaids, mother and others all sharing ideas, with Pinterest your wedding support group can “pin” ideas they want you to see and you can “pin” ideas you want them to see. Not only can your friends see your pins but they can also comment on your pins which is a great way to get instant feedback.

Think about all of main areas you have to plan for your wedding: venue, invitations, attire, decor, cake, the list goes on and on but you can make a board for each of these categories and slowly your vision will start to take shape. On our Pinterest page we have boards for Bridesmaid Dresses, Gown, Rustic Wedding Ideas, Barn Weddings, Invitations, Flowers and more!

Pinterest makes it easy to search so you can find the inspiration you are looking for. You can search for pins, boards or people. Say you are looking for things for your outdoor wedding you can search that exact term and you will find everyone who named their pin “outdoor wedding” or if you search boards you will get a list of everyone who has a board named “outdoor weddings” or you can track down people that you may want to follow. One of my favorite things about Pinterest is how creative people get with their boards. In any given day you can see boards like Nautical Wedding, Wedding Hairstyles and  Urban Wedding Ideas.

Pinterest also allows you to post your “pins” to your other social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter and they make it easy for you to send an email of an image you like. Head on over and check it out but be careful it is very addictive.

Rustic Chic Paper

I love featuring beautiful rustic chic wedding, farm style weddings, country weddings along with all of the other types of events but I also love showing off some of the other wedding items out there. Today I thought it would be fun to take a tiny detour and spend a tiny bit of time ohhing and ahhing over some beautiful paper. Rifle Paper Co. is always one of my first stops when looking for some paper inspiration. Awhile back I showed off their Folk Art Wedding Invitations, Vintage Wedding Invitations and of course their Rustic Wedding Invitation.

Rustic Wedding Centerpieces

There are so many different areas of a wedding to plan. From finding the perfect rustic wedding venue to picking out your dream country wedding gown, there are almost too many details to mention. One area that you will defiantly want to make sure you give some thought to is creating a beautiful rustic wedding centerpiece. To help you get some ideas I pulled together some of the best rustic wedding centerpiece from the last few months.

Advice On How To Get The Best Wedding Photos

upscale-BBQ-Couple

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then you most certainly want to make sure your wedding photos say exactly what you want them to say. Between selecting the proper rustic wedding venue and finding the rustic wedding dress or your dreams you might not think that you need to spend a lot of time searching out the right photographer but after all is said and done its the pictures that you are left with. To help you think through the wedding photography process and to ensure you get the best wedding pictures possible I asked one of my favorite wedding photographers, Amanda from Orchard Cove Photography for some advice. Here are a few of the weddings that shot by Orchard Cove that we have featured: Elegant BBQ Wedding, Vermont Rustic Wedding & New Hampshire Rustic Wedding .

Are there different photography styles that a bride & groom should consider?

Photography styles are a bit subjective but the buzz word of the moment is definitely “Photojournalistic.” 95% of the time when I speak with couples and ask them what they want they reply: “We want mostly photojournalistic images but do still want to do a few group portraits.”

This is the style of images I specialize in and to me it means that I am in the background observing and photographing for 90% of the day and only have direct interaction with the couple (where I am asking them to look at me and directing them in posing) during the formal portraits.

Most of the couples I work with want these groupings documented but would prefer to do it quickly so they can get back to their guests! Thus my approach is a relaxed family portrait where everyone is present but I’m not spending five minutes arranging the posing of a given group. We flow from one family group to the next adding and subtracting people to get all the combinations and it can be done in as little as ten minutes!

The other two main styles I notice in photography could be described as Traditional and Modern.

Traditional to me means that the couple is much more camera aware and in many of the shots is looking directly at the camera Think about your parent’s wedding album – them cutting the cake looking straight at the photographer, them holding hands looking down at the flowers, their hands intertwined over the flowers – all very traditional shots that are clearly set up. Many people still find this style appealing but for me it lacks the emotion of the photojournalistic style.

Nowadays photographers are also experimenting with a more modern style. I would say this is still emerging but it might include heavier use of Off Camera Flash, Textures and other treatments added to the photos digitally, and much more creative posing of subjects.

Instead of boxing yourself into one style vs. another look around through portfolios until you find photos that you love. You also want to be comfortable and happy around the photographer so make sure you get to know them – read their blog, do an engagement shoot – this will make for better pictures on the wedding day!

Should a bride spend a lot of time making a shot list with her photographer or is better to let the photographer decide what images to get?

For the most part I advise couples to only give me a list of non-standard groupings that they want photographed. This could involved a college group, a special Godparent, all the cousins, etc.

Many wedding magazines detail exhaustive shot lists that include everything from the bride walking into the ceremony, the kiss, bride and groom exiting the ceremony, 1st dance, etc. Most photographers would look at that list and say DUH

Giving your photographer a long list means that for much of the night we are consulting a piece of paper to make sure we got everything and missing the really special spontaneous moments that are happening all around us.

Do you have a favorite type of venue (farm, country club, private home etc…) that you like to shoot at?

My absolute favorite are at-home weddings. My Husband Jeff and I were married at my Mom’s house in 2008 so all of the photos represent one of our favorite places in the world. It’s so special now to be able to eat lunch out on the lawn looking at the lake where we had our ceremony, walk along the beach and remember our excitement of doing our first look there, and remember taking a moment to look around and see all of our family and friends gather in one place….a place we can re-visit anytime we want.

To me the personality and details that can be found in a house where someone has grown up are a gold mine of inspiration on such an important day. I also find that people are often more relaxed being in a familiar setting which makes for better photos.

You shoot so much in New England, do you have a favorite venue that you have shot at?

Having grown up spending summers in Shelburne, VT I love The Coach Barn at Shelburne Farms. The ceremony site is right on the lake, the cocktail hour is in a beautiful courtyard, and a historic barn provides the backdrop for the reception. The natural beauty blows people away and the opportunities for gorgeous portraits are endless!

For brides who may be nervous on their big day, any tips on how to get your brides to relax so they can have great smiles in their pics?

I always recommend doing a first look which involves taking all of the portraits before the ceremony. There is so much anticipation for the top of the aisle moment that I think sometimes the enjoyment gets lost!
Doing a first look means that you’ve given yourself some time with the person who knows you best and knows how to calm you down. When the ceremony starts you are excited, relaxed and ready to go and even better – you can then be with your guests immediately after the ceremony!

Any tips for brides who are on a budget but still want good photo coverage on their big day?

I would prioritize what parts of the day are most important and then hire someone for just a few hours. Photographers newer to the market are often less expensive but just make sure they have the experience. Your wedding photographs will be the one concrete thing left over after the day (food is eaten, flowers will wilt, music has stopped). I’ve heard so many people regret that they didn’t choose the right photographer but I’ve never heard anyone say: “I really wish we had upgraded to steak!”
