If you are not sure how a surprise wedding works then you are about to find out. This super sweet couple planned a wedding without telling anyone outside of the wedding party and gathered friends and family to what everyone thought was a family reunion, little did they know. This amazing wedding was held at a rustic Boston wedding venue called Thompson Island, yes, the couple rented an island! From the photographer: We have been photographing rustic weddings throughout New England for the last four years, and we have never seen anything like the one we’re about to share with you. You’d think having a wedding on an island would be unique enough, but this bride and groom wanted to avoid the stress of a traditional wedding and decided to throw a “Surprise Wedding” and tell all of the guests they were coming for a family reunion! Thanks once again to DreamLove Photography for sharing this one-of-a-kind wedding with us today.
Pat and Anna had been together for twelve years, and as their officiant stated, “Never needed to get married”. But a few years ago, Pat became very sick, and in the hospital they realized that as unmarried folk, they didn’t have the same rights that married couples did. They started thinking about tying the knot, but wanted to do things a bit differently… and decided to throw a SURPRISE wedding. They only told members of their wedding party the secret, and sent all other guests invitations for a big family reunion. Once the guests were on the boat over to Thompson Island, which actually serves as an Outward Bound educational center, there were suspicions about the day, but no one knew for sure. Pat greeted the boat at the dock, and shared the news by whispering it to his nephew who then yelled out, “THEY’RE GETTING MARRIED!” There were hoots and hollers, and a lot of looks of pure shock, mixed with pure joy. You’ll see the parents reactions below, which really are priceless.
From the bride: Our favorite thing about the day was – honestly, everything! The surprise aspect of it was amazing…it made it so no one there had to worry or get stressed about ANYTHING! We tried to make it as relaxed an atmosphere as possible and just wanted everyone to have fun. By bringing people to an island, we wanted to remove them from the real world and bring them into our world for the day. We loved the band, the food, the photographers…everything! We picked only people WE liked, people we would want to be friends with, to work with on this. EVERYONE involved in our wedding had similar personalities, outlooks, etc. Everyone was low-key and fun which meant the entire day was a ridiculously good time.
