Making your own wedding signs is something that every rustic bride wants to do! We love the look of metallic signs pointing the way around a rustic venue and so today we bring you a fun new method! Be careful with the liquid leaf as it is oil based and can stain clothes and surfaces. We recommend putting a few layers of newsprint down on your working surface before you start! You could also stencil any kinds of lettering using the same method, with vinyl lettering instead of painters tape!
What you’ll need : Newsprint / Scissors / Painters Tape / Canvas or Wood / Plastic Cup / Paintbrush / Liquid Gold Copper and Silver paint
First, you will want to tape out the shape of your arrow. You could trace a stencil or wing it with some painters tape like we did.
Once you have your arrow taped down, make sure the corners are all pressed down firmly!
Start with the warmest color of liquid leaf – we started with copper.
Starting at one edge of the sign, paint with copper liquid leaf, adding a little gold to it as you go to create an ombre effect. By the time you get to the middle you want to be using pure gold liquid leaf.
Once you pass the middle, start adding silver to the gold at the same pace so that you will be at pure silver by the time you get to the top.
Once you are finished, allow the canvas to dry.
Make sure to touch up the edges while you are waiting for the top to dry.
Once dry, carefully peel up the tape on piece at a time to reveal the raw wood or canvas below.
Throw away all extra tape and scraps while waiting for the sides to dry completely.
And there you have your arrow sign for your wedding day! These are great for roadsigns because the metallic really catches the light !
