We have seen lots of different uses of handkerchiefs at weddings so we thought we would put together a list of our favorites for your inspiration! Weddings being the emotional days that they are usually call for something to dry those eyes, but handkerchiefs can do so much more than that! Incorporating them into your wedding decor can be a fun and easy way to add a wonderfully nostalgic element to your big day. You also have the option of finding vintage ones and mismatching them, sewing your own from a fabric of your choosing or buying them new! We hope you find these ideas as inspiring as we do!!
Handkerchief Wrapped Bouquet : This bride wrapped her bouquet in a family heirloom on her wedding day. We love the softness this gives her bouquet and also the nostalgia of the gesture.
Handkerchief Invitations: We featured this vendor a while back here on the blog and just can’t get over how great of an idea these invitations are. Customized to your wedding, this company prints wedding invitations directly on the handkerchiefs. It sure is one subtle way to let people prepare themselves to cry their eyes out on your wedding day! This also becomes a keepsake for each of your guests to remember your wedding by.
Embroidered Handkerchiefs for Mother & Father of the Bride : We have seen these in a few weddings recently and love the gesture of embroidering handkerchiefs with personal notes from the bride to her parents. These are traditionally given to the brides parents the morning of the wedding. It is such a sweet gesture and given the brides parents a token to remember this monumental occasion in their lives.
Handkerchiefs for Happy Tears : It also is a lovely idea to have handkerchiefs on hand for your guests and family to use on your wedding day. We have seen weddings where vintage handkerchiefs have been collected from various places, cleaned and steamed and presented in baskets at the ceremony for guests to take and keep as wedding favors. You could also have them embroidered with your wedding date if you wanted to add an extra personal touch.
Handkerchief Banners : If you wanted to incorporate handkerchiefs further into your decor, you could sew them into banners! You simply would cut them in half and sew them along a ribbon of your choosing to hang in the breeze. We love the colorful ones featured here but this could also be really beautiful with vintage white lace handkerchiefs for a more elegant look! A great idea for an outdoor or backyard wedding!
