This gorgeous, minimalist rustic wedding was almost entirely arranged by the bride and groom. From the bride, Gary loves woodworking and decided to make his own cufflinks out of walnut. We set up my camera and shot our engagement photo with a self-timer on the stairs in front of our house! I came up with my feather-lined wrap and made my own fascinator with a couple of fur pins from my grandmother and additional feathers. Gary and I looked for and found many decorations at garage sales and online, like the green rug we used to mark our ceremony spot, the 40 or so pillows to outfit the champagne reception area, the candelabras for buffet and ceremony site. We love every single detail of this hand-crafted wedding. Our thanks goes to Lili Durkin Photography for taking these beautiful photographs!
From the bride: Finding our perfect location at the Oakland Nature Friends private German hiking club was really our biggest coup – and the start of 6 months of planning. Since we love to hike, and I am German, it had a gorgeous outdoor setting and nostalgic Euro vibe, we loved it at first sight, and were happy with the rustic, unpretentious setting that set the tone for the style of our wedding. The fact that the weather (and full moon!) were perfect that day, too, was icing on the cake. Thrifty as we are, it was important for us not to overpay for things and with some work trades and a lot of help from our friends, we managed to pull off our dream wedding for just over $10,000.
